\u2018It\u2019s not a race,\u2019 Rob Angus said at the briefing.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The cream of NBRC took two skiffs to Spittal for the five mile row up to Paxton House. Ann H, Claire C, Johnny S, Keith A, Kath M, Dave H, Sandy W, Carmen M and Dave and Mary-Ann W represented the club on a glorious sunny autumn day.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Seventeen skiffs from along the east and Northumberland coast and from as far away as Wormit and Anstruther took part in the steady row up the river. At the half way point under the A1 the cox said there\u2019s only four in front of us, so a little effort \u2026..<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u2018It\u2019s not a race\u2019 he was reminded.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

We got to Paxton in no time at all, some skiffs went onto the Chain Bridge while most were content to lie in the sunshine and picnic and socialise. The return journey was guaranteed to be an even easier effort with the river and wind blowing us all the way down to the sea.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u2018We\u2019re in a medal position\u2019 the cox said. In perfect harmony the crew responded, \u2018It\u2019s not a race.\u2019<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Rowing under the various bridges is always an exhilarating experience with lots of photo opportunities, especially in the warm sunshine.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

All clubs lent a hand in recovering skiffs and we said our goodbyes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u2018 When\u2019s prizegiving ?\u2019 that<\/em> cox asked. By then nobody was speaking to him.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Everybody agreed one of the best club away days.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
