On March 1st 2025, 7 enthusiastic NB rowers and Blackadder, headed to Port Edgar for the Mad March Mash Up. A regatta where crew and boats were mixed up, so this was a great chance to catch up with fellow skiffies from other clubs and check out their boats for the start of the season.
It was an early start from NB, but we were very thankful for the freshly made bacon rolls on arrival and also plenty of home-baking and a variety of soups to keep us warm throughout the day.
The familiar sound of the hooter was heard for the start of the first race and the regatta began. The various 6 “potato” races that followed, certainly got the heart rate up with 750m sprints starting from Hawes Pier and finishing under the old Forth road bridge, which as the day brightened up it was quite a sight to watch.
The first race was the Major Mash up for the mxd 60+, followed by the Tattiebogels mxd 50+, Spudulike mxd open, George’s special stories Mxd decades, New Potatoes mxd 20+ and lastly, Bubble and Squeak for 2 youth and 2 older rowers. Queensferry RC clearly love their potatoes!
The day came to a close with great results and medals from everyone that was there on the day and Blackadder herself, came 1st in 2 races!!
