General: Things moving along at a nice pace again on both boats with oar manufacture now commenced. Although no shifts have been runnning this week we have had the considerable assistance of two local craftsmen. Graham McNicol has been working on NB001, progressing the inside top rail. Stewart Auld has been assisting with shapping the Douglas Fir for the first set of oars.
NB001 has started to get its inside top rail cut and shaped. NB002 planking continuing. Now 1/3 complete
Job Number NB001: The new batch of larch has been dressed thus allowing fitting of the rails and seats. This work should begin during Wk10. Job Number NB002: Aprons have been installed to Hog. Keel and stems installed. Job NB001 has been lifted off the moulds and is now in Bay B where it will now have the internal fit-out before turning up-side down again to have the outside hull painted. NB001 has now reached Milestone 2.
The planking is now complete on Job NB001. When the Keel and Stems are installed then the boat will be lifted off the moulds allowing Job NB002 to commence. There is still some “fairing” (smoothing of planks) on some “flat spots” but this could be completed before the boat is painted while in Bay B …
