Today started with weighing and scrutinising of the boats. Most bets were on SJB coming in around 165-170kg but to our surprise we topped 194kg! Maybe this was because the footrests are integral to the boat and unable to be removed, and also the multiple coats of paint? Anyway, Blackadder came in at 148kg almost 50kg lighter (almost half a Duncan). Our USA friends should be happy with their loan boat.

Following that the opening ceremony row was sadly cancelled. But a parade led by the local pipe band showed what an international event Skiffie World’s is – Scotland (obvs), Ireland, England, NL, South Africa, Australia, Canada and the US of A.

Our 40+ women then took part in a mock race to test the timing and monitoring systems and help the organisers get a view of the challenges the increasingly windy and sporty conditions were posing. Feedback was mixed and our mens 40+ crew didn’t go out after.

Early evening the organising committee were meeting to decide on the schedule for Monday given NNW winds are forecast to hit a steady 25mph with gusts of 38 by 1pm. We await the decision.
Great to see so many of the NB (or should I say NOB) team getting involved today!!!!
